The Smarter Growth Alliance for Charles County (SGACC) supports a future for our county that promotes a vibrant and healthy outdoors; protects farms, forests and streams, particularly the Mattawoman Creek from unbridled development; where no child attends school in a trailer; where traffic is not an everyday burden; where mass-transit alternatives are available as the heart of Waldorf is revitalized; and where all of our communities are clean, safe and enjoyable places to live, work and play.

LISTEN to former Maryland Gov. Parris N. Glendening, who spoke with WeMakeItNews.com for a preview of his May 30th SGACC presentation.
The SGACC’s “A Better Charles County through Smart Growth” forum will be held on May 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the College of Southern Maryland’s La Plata campus.
The forum also features Ed McMahon of the Urban Land Institute.
Glendening and McMahon’s presentations will underscore that Charles County is missing out on opportunities for a much better future. Some of our leaders are ignoring common sense because we’ve allowed a small group of land speculators and the development lobby to control our land-use policies. This wrong path will destroy OUR beautiful county. The message needs to be heard and shared that our county can grow smarter, and have both a robust economy and a healthy environment.
